Why is JRI-Poland Implementing a Membership Model Now after 26 Years?

JRI-Poland has always served researchers by making the records of the Jews of Poland Internet-accessible - without charge - when legally, technically, and financially, possible. We discovered that we became very good at raising money for specific town projects, but the general administrative needs of our volunteer organization has long suffered. As we have grown to an organization of more than 6.2 million records representing over 600 towns in the current and former territories of Poland, our regular recurring expenses including records keeping, professional accounting and auditing services, and the cloud (computer) services where we host our website and data, have grown. We’ve had no organized way to fund these organizational costs which are not town-specific. We have monthly, predictable expenses, the responsible thing to do is to have predictable revenue to cover those expenses. Therefore, starting April 1, 2021, JRI-Poland will be implementing a membership system and setting basic membership dues at $54 a year.
