AGAD Archives Transfers

NEW AGAD ARCHIVES PROJECT
Indexing of 2011/2012 Transfers
from Warsaw USC (Civil Records Office)

Vital record registers held at the Warszawa Urzad Stanu Cywilnego are to be transferred to the AGAD Archive whenever all the records in a specific register are more than 100 years old. The last two transfers took place in 2011 and 2012.

These transfers extend the AGAD collections of 63 towns, many up through 1911, and introduces records for 5 towns – Chodorow, Monasterzyska, Podkamien, Przemyslany, and Sniatyn.

On Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, the Polish State Archives and Jewish Records Indexing - Poland entered into a new multi-year agreement to resume indexing at all Archives. This project is the realization with the AGAD Archives of that Agreement.

This table summarizes these recent transfers and JRI-Poland has already started indexing these records. Researchers can help accelerate the indexing of their towns’ records by contributing to those towns’ indexing projects. Instructions for contributing can be found at http://www.jri-poland.org/support.htm. Please be sure to identify your contribution to AGAD-"your town" project.

Please note that these registers may or may not be available to the public right now as AGAD usually microfilms all new registers and uses those microfilms for onsite research. See the AGAD website for information on availability.

Surviving records less than 100 years old are held in the Civil Records Offices (Urzad Stanu Cywilnego) of each town.

For information on the 20th century records available for your town, visit the Routes to Roots Foundation website, CLICK ON THE 'SEARCH DATABASE' button (on the right side) and enter the town name. Look for the town name in the Repository/City column of the search results. There are typically links to lists of available births, marriage and death records for the town.

Note, however, the Routes to Roots Foundation database may indicate turn of the century records that have already been transferred to the appropriate branch of the Polish State Archives where they can be indexed for the JRI-Poland database.
